How will a recession effect the average person?

Except for the rising gas prices and maybe the cost of milk I haven’t felt too “pinched”. I’ve read about the depression but am having a difficult time understanding what kind of impact a recession will have on my life. (I was a kid in the last recession but now have four kids of my own.)

Except for people that lose their jobs or are entering the job market most people are not effected very much. Pay increases are smaller and is harder to change jobs but mostly it just makes people feel a little anxious. Every time you hear about layoffs somewhere, you think “could that happen to me”.
