foreclosure

My home is very close to foreclosure. The property is worth about 1/2 the amount of the loan. Since the loan(s) is a 20/80 the house is not covered by PMI. If the bank agrees to a Shortsale, am I still liable for the tax on the debt forgiveness on a 1099 under the congressional debt foregiveness act?

I recently paid my credit card bill of $2.27, however the credit card company entered the payment as $227.00, causing $50 in overdraft fees at my bank. The credit card company had me fax over a statement with the bank fees on it so they can take care of it, however after 3 weeks they still haven’t done it, they tell me that they don’t even know if the statement is in the building and that they get hundreds of faxes a day and as soon as they get to it, they will handle it, what if this takes months? Is there a way I can make them take care of this matter more quickly? I just went ahead and paid my banks fees just so I could use my bank account again. Did I do the right thing? What if the credit card company never received the fax and they end up asking for another one, how can I make sure that they receive it? They corrected the mistake between the $2.27 and $227.00, maybe that’s all I can hope for.

I am bringing home a infant in a few weeks that we are adopting. We know the birth family. We are going to do temporary guardianship at the beginning- then adopt. We are worried that because are credit is bad and because we don’t make tons of money that they will not approve the adoption. Can that happen? Even if the child is already in our home? and do you have to have money in savings etc?

I have been considering doing a short sale. But I know if I owe $358 and I get $300, then I owe taxes on the $58 difference because the bank considers it a gift. If I do a foreclosure, will I have to pay taxes on that?

Can someone tell me how do Debt Consolidation work? Is it free? How should I choose what company to go with once I decide to consolidate my debt? Is this a wise choice? What are the consequences of Debt Consolidation?

Lets say I have 4 credit cards totalling $3000. I then wrote out 4 checks and paid off each card in full on the same day. How long would I have to wait until my credit report reflected all of these charges paid off?

I am a college student and I am in desperate need of a student loan to help out with some living expenses. I live on my own and just kicked the ex to the curb because he was a money sucking parasite. (I dont want advice about that situation because I already know how stupid I was) So please, if anyone knows where I can get a student loan with bad credit (cause he helped ruin it) please let me know! Thanks in advance!! :)

I am trying to repair credit. I have enough money to establish a secure credit card without impacting my budget too much. I can also qualify (barely) for an unsecured card with excessive fees (billed to my available credit upon issue). So, I guess my question is…is there any difference in credit reporting between the two options? This will help me decide which route to go. I plan to use the card incidentally, only to show usage and increase my credit score.
