credit card

I’ve heard that once you pay off a credit card you shouldn’t close the account to keep a good credit score. I’ve also heard that even though one pays off his credit card reducing the credit limit is also not a good option for keeping a great credit rating. What is the best way to handle this situation if you don’t really want the card around to prevent you from running the balance up, but also don’t want to hurt your credit rating. Is there any way to find out what exactly affects one’s credit score?

Examples: Let’s just say a website or book states something like filing for bankruptcy subtracts XXXX amount of points from your credit rating. Defaulting on credit card payments for XXX amount of months subtracts XXX amount of points from your credit rating. Paying off federal student loans adds or subtracts XXXX amount of points from your credit rating. Also is there anywhere that states how long certain things stay on your credit report?

Example: You refinance with $200,000 cash out & house appraises at $650,000. The loan is $520,000. Value of property drops to $450K so you can’t refi; the cash has been spent & now it is going into foreclosure. What will bank do?

I am 24, single, pregnant and work two jobs. I can afford an apartment but my credit is bad due to not working for a couple months.

I am living with my dad and stepmom right now but I need to get out asap. How can I get an apartment if I have bad credit and no cosigner?

I have tried to get approved for a debt consolidation loan so I could have my credit cards and school loan under one monthly payment rather than juggling several payments but I get denied because I have too much credit in my name right now. If I close all the credit cards will this help me get a loan approved? It would make life so much easier if I just had 1 steady monthly payment.

My boyrfriend and I just got approved for a mortgage, and we would like to purchase a foreclosure. (a home in our price range is not large enough for all of our stuff). What is the process for buying a foreclosure, can we still have a showing? What’s the difference in process??
